Prior to working with a client, we hop on a free discovery call to make sure we’re a good fit for their needs.
For this potential client, she mentioned she had been dealing with foot pain for months without success. She dreaded the first steps out of bed in the morning. She couldn’t run without pain. Standing for long periods became brutal.
She felt limited and frustrated.
She saw her primary care physician and an orthopedic specialist who ran expensive tests and imaging.
The results from imaging and orthopedic tests were in…
She was told – “There’s nothing wrong.”
On our discovery call, it became apparent that her full story hadn’t been heard. Her symptoms were strange and seemed to be related to her diet. I recommended she cut out gluten, something she mentioned she had been sensitive to in the past, and that I would check in with her in 2 weeks.
By no means am I a registered dietician. But I am a (somewhat logical) human being. If eating a specific food seems to be correlated with unpleasant symptoms, let’s remove it and see what happens.
2 weeks later – without anymore expensive, unnecessary interventions – she was pain free and back to running.
These things happen more often than they should when it comes to pain.
IT TAKES TIME to peel back the layers and really understand someone’s story and pain experience. This isn’t entirely the fault of clinicians in the traditional, insurance-based medical model. It’s just the way the system is setup…
Clinicians don’t have the time to listen to someone’s story, ask the right questions, and identify the root causes.
At Forward, it is our mission to provide the time and attention that pain problems require. No unnecessary medical interventions. No cookie cutter exercise sheets. No double booked appointments.
With a focus on listening and individualized care, we are looking to fill an unfortunate gap in the medical world.
At Forward, we focus more on root causes and ultimately – keeping people active, healthy, and heard.
Hey, my name is Dr. Vince Van Haute, and I’m the owner and founder of Forward Physical Therapy and Performance. I have worked with numerous athletes that participate in CrossFit, weightlifting, yoga, running and more after they’ve been told by multiple healthcare providers that they have to stop doing what they love. As a physical therapist and strength coach for 9+ years, it has been my mission to help active adults get out of pain and move better so that they can perform at their highest potential.
