How do we test hip pain at Forward Omaha?

“I know I’m here for my shoulder pain, but maybe you can look at my hip? I gave up searching for answers.”

This happens a lot in clinic.

We end up addressing various long-standing aches and pains that have left our clients frustrated.

In this case, this person has dealt with vague hip symptoms for years.

You can see via the red lines on the photos below she has a tough to getting her pelvis/hips level with a single leg hinge.

Because of this, her right hip has always felt tight and achey.

Testing Right Hip

Red Line is CROOKED

Notice how her hips are NOT squared here.

This tells us that she is not loading/accessing her right hip well.

Testing Left Hip

Red Line is LEVEL

Notice how her hips are squared here.

This tells us that she is loading her left hip well!

How did we address this?

We know the body responds well to load and safe movement.

We worked on single leg hinge patterns that loaded the right hip more effectively, something she has been unknowingly avoiding.

By watching her movement strategies and giving her the right cues, we have been able to decrease her right hip symptoms and better utilize both hips 🙂

……HIP HIP, hooray!!!…….
